The first group of mums and toddlers I managed to find here was an English one! Well its not technically a group, but they met through a website for Ex-pats and they like to meet up at each others houses for a cuppa and let the kids play. Sounds ideal and just my cup of tea!
Anyway one of the mums got in touch with me and invited me to her house about 10 mins away. Laila, Max and I went and she had a 4 yr old boy, who to be honest was a little bit too boisterous and rough for Laila, who was feeling particularly shy that day, but he was probably just over-excited at having someone new to play. She had also invited her friend who has a little girl who's 20 months and very sweet. I got on particularly well with her, and she got in touch with me since to tell me about some French playgroups she'd heard about. We're currently in the process of trying to find out when they are, we're awaiting an email with the schedule. She desperately wants to socialise with her little girl as apparently she only ever sees 2 other children, one of them being this 4yr old boy. We've now both been to each others houses and her and Laila have played really nicely together, well there are problems sharing toys but that's normal. They do seem to like each other though, I think Laila likes having some English people to talk to, it's important for her too I think. The mum is very nice and I think we'll be meeting up regularly now. She's a northener like me, although with a much stronger accent!
As for the group of mums that meet, well there's only been one meet up since I've known them and I couldn't go. They clearly need someone to organise them, but I don't think I'll be stepping up for the job just yet! My dear NCT friends will be laughing at this!!
Oh and when I go to a French playgroup I will post, it should be interesting!!!
