We had Uncle Leslie and Aunty Margaret visit last week, on their trip round Europe, they were staying with mum and dad and all came over for a day and night. Laila had never met them, but got over her shyness very quickly and was soon running around in the garden with Uncle Leslie. He reminds me so much of my grandad (his father), and Laila is looking a lot more like I did when I was little , so it brought back a lot of lovely memories of me playing with my grandad which was nice!
I made Yorkshire Puddings for dinner (well roast pork as well!), but this turned into such a big event! If you don't know my family, you don't know how integral and important Yorkshire Puddings are to a roast dinner! Now my mum taught me how to make them when I was young, and I often did it for her when she was cooking as my way of being able to help. I'll admit I wasn't always that helpful! Since moving to France mum has stopped making them, she's not sure if its the flour or her oven but she says she can't make them anymore. So I gave it a go in my oven and had a big success! I have more recently tried out different recipes and techniques for making them, but this time had to contend with my dad trying to learn how to do it, and my mum and Uncle Leslie (the so-called experts!) "advising" me on how to do it. So much so that when they were ready we realised the pork wasn't cooked yet and so the yorkshires had to sit in the oven for another 30 mins!!!
Anyway, they were deemed delicious by everybody so that's all I care about!
I'll add a link for Brian Turner's method for making them here below, it's very close to how I do it. I've never used the meat dripping (normally just put oil in) and never added vinegar either, but will be trying both of these ideas next time!
