The furniture is in!

This week has been about getting the house ready for our wordly goods arriving.

Dad has done a brilliant job painting Max's room, the upstairs loo and several ceilings in the house.

We went from mum and dads house where we're still staying to Lannion yesterday morning, and the removal men were supposedly coming at 13.15 which gave us enough time to have some lunch. We just got the quiche in the oven and we see the lorry arrive outside, at midday!! Arrghh! Luckily however, in typical french style. They were just parking up and going to lunch they said they would be back in an hour, and they were with bellys full (and protruding!) and smelling of beer! These 2 removal guys were something to be seen, they were not exactly the fittest guys for the job, their sweats broke out after just the first few boxes!

This is them just fitting everything in in England

I am by no means complaining about our move as it was all paid for by Francois' new work, but I am amused at the "service". They say they pack and unpack all the fragile, i.e. plates, glasses, picture frames etc. They also taken down and put back together any furniture they need to in order to move it. Well, we may as well have done the fragile ourselves, we were under the impression they had special boxes for the plates and dishes with slots to put them into, but no, they stacked 5 plates (yes my precious Denby) at a time and loosely wrapped them in bubble wrap and stuck them in a normal box, we could have done a much nicer job of it. However I haven't noticed anything broken as yet so its not the end of the world! Then the amusement of watching them trying to reconstruct the beds and the futon whilst sweating profusely! That reminds me I must disinfect it all :-(. We told them to leave the futon and that we could do it, but no he insisted, swearing under his breath. I could see he had attached it all wrong and I found the instructions to show him but being a man of course he wasn't interested in the instructions! He did take it apart and start again, but I will be checking it properly this weekend before letting anyone sleep on it!

Laila was really excited to see all of our things arriving, it made it all real for her. She was especially excited to see all of our beds in our rooms, hers in particular!

So it was a long day, but we think everything got unloaded in one piece. It was too late for us to stay and unpack anything, and today we're having a rest at mum and dads. We're going up Saturday morning and staying overnight to have a weekend of unpacking.
