House Build - exterior completed, interior en route...

I haven't updated on our house build in such a long time. Any friends on Facebook will have seen the photos but I never write an update.

The last update I posted in February showed the roof under construction. That was completed really quickly and the walls were rendered soon after. We chose 2 colours for our outside walls, well actually the sales guy at Trecobat did, and we agreed. I am happy with the final result but it did take me about 24 hours to get used to the red colour at the front!

The garden took a bit longer to be done, this was all down to the awful weather we've had over the past month.
The big pile of earth in the garden has finally been removed and has been replaced by a "talu", I have no idea how to say this in English. It's a common way of creating a boundary here, using the earth to make a raised border which we can then plant with a hedge.

The builders responsibility for the garden is nearly complete, we hope they are coming back next week to finish levelling out the ground alongside the house and then it will look nice and tidy.
After that it's over to us to plant the grass and the hedge and create our garden! Luckily my parents are very very eager to help us with this part, as we're not the most green fingered people, but we'll hopefully learn along the way!

As for the inside of the house, it's well underway. The insulation was done a few weeks ago,  then it was up to the electrician and the plumber to do their work. It's amazing to see how they do it, there are wires and cables and pipes everywhere, it's a maze! We had a meeting with the electrician to decide exactly where we wanted our switches, sockets and outlets. It was a long meeting to go through it all! Once their work was done, the plasterer came back (he did our insulation) to start fixing the plasterboard to the metal rails and this is where we are now, our rooms downstairs are starting to take shape and we'll finally get to see what our house really looks and feels like inside!

And the question everyone keeps asking us, we finally have an answer to....we should get the keys by the end of July. The builders don't work in August, so hopefully this is a comfortable estimate which means they may finish earlier. After the plasterboard is finished in the next couple of weeks, a different plasterer has to come to plaster the plasterboards together. The electrician and plumber come back to finish their work, light switches, sockets, sinks, bath and shower etc. Then that leaves the flooring and the staircase to be fitted. The windows and doors will be checked and tightened, the roofer comes back to check the tiles are still in place in case any need replacing and they have all the conformity tests to do too. Easily 2 months of work left! We'll be doing the paintwork and fitting our kitchen and cupboards etc. once we get the keys, so we're hoping to move in before school starts again in September!
