We'd done a few Halloween themed drawings and colouring-in this week, Laila must have drawn about 10 different pumpkins for me!
We also bought the pumpkin, carved it and lit the candle, only to have to blow it out 2 mins later as neither child would stop prodding and poking it!
Then at 6pm today I got them dressed up, no point doing it earlier as they never last more than 5 mins in a costume!
They make possibly the cutest little Pirate and Bat combination ever, don't you think?! The row of princess and fairy dresses in our wardrobe was snubbed by my not-so-girly girl!
We answered the door to 2 groups of kids dressed up and gave them sweets. At which Laila looked rather worried that our stash might deplete a bit too quickly!
We then popped round to our neighbours house to see her friend and stayed for aperitifs.

So I didn't take them trick-or-treating, I'm still not sure I will unless they really want to go, but for now they're too young to ask for it and I would be the one knocking on the door and asking for sweets which would be weird, right?!
My neighbour doesn't fancy trick-or-treating either, and so she has invented a Halloween story for her little boy. On Halloween the nice witch comes and leaves sweets for him to find in the house. I thought this sounded quite nice and harmless, so I tried it with Laila:
The eyes widened alarmingly, she then said "but we've already got the sweets that Mummy bought and I DON'T LIKE WITCHES, I'M SCARED, PLEASE DON'T LET THE WITCH COME!!!
Ok Laila, not even the nice witch?
NO WITCHES!
OK, maybe Mummy and Daddy will hide the sweets for you to find?
Yes, let's do an Easter Egg bonbon hunt in the garden.
So that's decided and we're doing that tomorrow.
Honestly, who thought a witch bringing sweets would be a good idea!

Great idea about hiding the sweets around the house. Maybe I'll do that whenever we have a bad weather Halloween. And yes, they are the cutest pirate and bat ever! :-)
The children looked great! My 17-year old was an awesome zombie this year, complete with very realistic face wounds made from flour, honey and food colouring. I don't think she'll ever grow out of Halloween, thank goodness!
