Guignol: Punch and Judy French style

Living in a tourist town the summer months are very very busy. There are always at least 3 events on each weekend either in Lannion or the surrounding beachside towns, and generally we have to choose which one to attend. A lot are annual events, so we've had to let some go till another year, especially those not yet age appropriate for our little ones.

I was very excited about taking Laila to the Guignol though last weekend. Guignol is a puppet show from the 17th century, it has the same roots as Punch and Judy. This one had a special appearance by Winnie the Pooh, which is why I took Laila.
The location they chose in Lannion was strange, at the end of a car park in the town centre, they set up their tent and did the show inside. Poor Laila really didn't understand what we were going to see, so being forced into a closed tent was a bit unnnerving for her!
The price was 6 euros each, adults and children alike, the show lasts 45mins so this could be seen as a reasonable price. However we'd been planning to go as a family of four, then decided it wasn't worth spending 24 euros, so we split up! I took Laila, and Francois took Max off to watch Lannion Rugby playing a tournament in the other car park and jousting on the river! They enjoyed the spectacle on the river!

The puppet show was good, Laila stayed on my knee for most of it, she did venture to the front with the other children for some parts but wouldn't join in with the shouting at the bad guy! Guignol took a pot of honey for Winnie, but the villain stole it, so Guignol had to be brave and go get it back. He hit the villain over the head knocking him out and the policeman carried him off to prison. The moral of the story being: villains go to prison and if you are good and help others out you will be rewarded!

Hmm, a good moral but imagine if my 3.5yr old applies this rule to her own life:
Laila is playing with a toy, another child snatches it out of her hands, she knocks him over the head. Mummy takes him away to Time-Out and Laila gets rewarded with a sweet!

Errm, there's something not quite right there!

So this is my 1st comment but not my 1st time reading :-) I love the picture of the rugby on the boats. Kinda weird but cool too. About the lesson ... you're so right. Sometimes well-meaning lessons get turned upside down by kids. Adrian has learned many a bad habit from Max & Ruby.
