Yes it's La Rentrée! Such a big deal in France. The kids go back to school after a massive 8 weeks holiday! Millions of adults will have had 3 or 4 weeks off this summer for their holidays, so it's back to work for them. It's also time to choose your sports for the year, everything functions on the school year system in France. So you sign up in September for your class and it goes from mid-September to June.
So for sports this year, I'm going to continue with a weekly Zumba class, I'm adding in a muscle workout class and also plan to go swimming twice a week where possible. I need to up my exercise and cut down on my sugar intake if I'm to get to a size I'm happy with!
François, although he needs to lose no weight, still wants to exercise, so he's opting for Volleyball this year (just for fun, no matches), and we've decided Max will enjoy Baby Volley on Saturday mornings. We did try Laila with it a couple years ago, it was a huge disaster, but we think Max will enjoy it more! Laila is sticking with gymnastics, and rightly so, she's very good at it. She's finally at the age where she changes from "Baby gym" to "Eveil Gymnique" and they have a kind of elite class at this level where they select the kids they want in it, Laila made the grade and we're very very proud of her! The club is a large one and they have many competitive teams and some are French champions! So her class will be Wednesday mornings, when there's no school, I'll get an hour with Max alone which we'll probably use to practice his bike riding skills as it's right near the kids cycle track.
There is a possibility that my Zumba teacher will open a couple classes for kids at our centre, if she does I'll definitely sign Laila up, as she's Zumba mad! Considering she's never done it before she certainly has a taste for it!!
As for school, that starts on Tuesday. Laila (5yrs) is going into "Grande Section" which is the last year of nursery school, and Max (3yrs) into "Petite Section", officially the first year but actually his second as his school have a "Très petite section" which he did last year. I think he'll benefit a lot more from school this year, as he's suddenly become interested in writing letters and drawing, so he'll get to do lots of that at school, as well as playing! Laila will be the eldest in her class, and her ability to read already puts her ahead of most of her classmates. But for once she'll be the eldest somewhere, so we want her to enjoy that feeling! Her best friend is only 3 months older than her but is moving up to primary school, she'll still see her in the playground, but it will be an interesting change for them both to experience. Fingers crossed there won't be too many tears.
Finally, I start back teaching at school a week later, I'm nearly all ready. I've done tons of preparation this summer, feeling super organised and motivated! I still only teach one morning at school, and only have a couple adult students at my other job as well as a couple of private ones. Not sure if I'll get more work or need it, we'll see what happens!
Bonne rentrée à tous. As they say in France!!

Still one week left to go here, after 11 weeks off (although with summer camps, plus the nursery being open for July they've only really been off for about 7).
Think it's going to be a bit of a shock for Pablo this year, his teacher last year was a big softie with all the kids, apparently his new teacher is a very good teacher, but quite strict with it.
Bonne rentrée!
