Potty training: 2nd time round

You would think potty training your second or third or subsequent child would be a walk in the park. After all the first time you have no idea what you're doing and it's a steep learning curve of wet pants and puddles everywhere.
However I can confirm that it is no easier the 2nd time. Maybe it's because the first was a girl and the second a boy, maybe it's because it's a different child and they all do things differently. But either way I think it's less exciting the second time, I just want to click my fingers or wave my magic wand and have him be potty trained, now!

I can't be bothered with all the hassle of persuading him to go on the potty every 45mins, of pretending it's just fine when he has an accident, and saying don't worry next time you'll get there on time. I don't want to do all the extra washing, clean out the potty several times a day, carry it round with me and ask for the hundredth time "are you sure you don't need a wee?"

Laila was trained earlier than Max, she decided she wanted to do it, and once she decides something, well that's it really! Within 3 days she was done, and despite a long period of sporadic accidents, it was pretty straightforward.

Max is one obstinate little child and if he doesn't want to do something, it's mission impossible to get him to do it. But he's definitely ready to be potty trained, so we're biting the bullet. It's a week since I started putting pants on him during the day, but then 2 days this week he had a tummy bug so we quickly put nappies back on!
I shouldn't speak too soon, but I think we've had a breakthrough today, definitely more hits on target than off, and we even had an outing to the supermarket in pants which stayed dry the whole time! He's finally come round to the idea of a sticker chart, after I had to shove it in his face and promise him a "bonbon" too!

So maybe, just maybe, we will soon be able to cut down the nappy bill.

Here's a cute photo of the boy in question, much better than a photo of a potty to illustrate this post!

You may try telling him there are no more diapers. It was the only thing that allowed my little girl to start doing number 2 in the potty. It can be tough going. I almost lost my mind!
